Starting a Guild - General help?
First off i'd like to introduce myself, my real name is Jeremy, in-game name(s), Riodan Riordan and Sebastian Saranfell. I'm a 32 year old game'a'holic who recently bought Guild Wars. I belong to a clan/guild called Free World Fighters or FwF, we are an online gaming community with associations in Counterstrike Source, Star Wars Galaxies, Jedi Academy, Soldier of Fortune 2 and a few other games.
I've recently created our new guild for Guild Wars and have managed to get the cape (although not without significant confusion.) And our next step is obtaining our guild hall. I guess my question is, is there a way to get the guild hall post-searing and regardless of if we can post or not, how do we go about getting it and what do we need to have to get it? (And for those of you who haven't figured out how to get the Cape yet:) In order to get the cape or to start your guild, you need to see the guild registrar who's directly back from the gate leading to the countryside in Ascalon, simply go up 2 flights of stairs and he's standing to the right of the main building next to a baron or duke with guards. Talk to him, and he'll get you started on your guild. In order to get your cape, you will need to have collected up 2 platinum bars. For those of you who don't know, collect up 2,000 gold pieces, each 1,000 gp = 1 platinum bar. Anyhow, I appreciate your site and your information and look forward to meeting a few of you in-game eventually, in hopes of friendly guild matches and extended fun. |

Getting a Guild Hall is a bit more complicated than getting the Cape.
The first step is obtaining a Celestial Sigil, which can be aquired two ways. The first is to win in the Hall of Heroes, which is unlikely for many groups unless they are highly coordinated, as well as powerful. The easier way is to simply buy one, which will usually cost around 12,000 gold. To use the Sigil and get a Guild Hall, you must go to Lion's Arch and speak with the Canthan Boat Captain. He will offer to take you to a number of different islands, each of which has a different Hall. There, you simply give the Sigil to an NPC, claiming the island as your own. |

I tried earning it, but my team always died. There has got to be an easier way to get these things. I'm worried that if I work hard to make that other 15k, the new going rate will go up to like 30k... |

I was having the same problems getting the money, isnt the point of the game to have guild battles, thats a bit hard when you have to save up 20k+ for the guild hall.

You don't have to save up the money. When I bought mine, I had around 7,000 gold. I borrowed 2,000 from one officer and 1,000 from another, then tossed in a few items to get it. To repay both officers, I just asked every other member to donate 100 gold.

Still the price seems a bit steep... I thought the sigil vendor was going to sell these things at 2000.

This is a scam. I will never give that amount of resources to an opponent guild.
I hear of huge alliances of guilds forming to team up in the GvGvG arenas of the Tombs to eliminate any opponents 2 on 1 and push one of their own to the top, then share the fortune once a Sigil is sold. This is a SCAM, defeats the purpose of the competition and if you BUY IT YOU SUPPORT IT. Trash the middlemen! Last edited by varyag; May 04, 2005 at 12:35 AM // 00:35.. |

I don't really know about this so thats why I want to know, can you get the sigil on PvE or is it Pvp only? If on PvE how? EDIT: Sigil trader never has those damn sigils! Always she says: "Sorry my mistake I ran out of stock, come back later. Do the traders ever have the sigils?

They're PvP only, you need to win them in the Hall of Heroes.
Varyag, that sounds like the complaint of someone who cannot make the money. If you don't pay, you won't win one in the Hall, because of those Guild Alliances you complain of. So, what do you suggest, camping the Sigil Trader? |

Why is there anger about it from the one guy up there? Just follow procedure, get the blasted thing, move on with life. If you cannot get it, ask yourself why, change your tactics. Calm down

I'll try to win one in the HoH for sure, there is no other choice at the moment.
The price was 5 to 8 plat a few days ago, 20k+ today and I read about a 25K + 50steel deal. Even with level20 characters, how many hours will it take to farm that? Sure it will be easier to farm for gold/items to trade for it with a fully leveled character in the final missions - but where is the guarantee they won't just keep pushing the price up? Where will it stop? Right now they want about 1/2 (!!!) of an average guild's total money pool, will it matter if your resources double if by then they double the price? Just follow the procedure, get scammed, promote scalping, move on with life. Your counter-arguments sound like you are either to foolish to realize what's going to happen or somehow benefit from it. Shame on you. Sigil trade between players should be outlawed and only conducted at static rates through the NPC Trader. P.S. Answer - Sigils are at the moment availiable only from winning in the PvP tournament - or trading with the people that have one. The Sigil traders are either out of them permanently - or get camped and bought out on a regular basis. Hope that answers it. Last edited by varyag; May 04, 2005 at 12:54 AM // 00:54.. |

Half of a guild's money pool? In a guild of 50 players, asking 400 gold each would result in 20,000. You're trying to tell me that most players have less than 1,000 gold?

Average PvP guilds have 16 to 20 people, and the price is no longer 20K, its about twice as much. If people continue to be able to collect such sums - there is no reason for the prices not to continue to rise. The scalpers can do this math too.

I see this being fixed in a patch. What is there to discourage Signet farming? The best way to do that is keep track of *individual* W/L, average them, and match the guild up with a group with simular results. What point is there to fight in the arena if you get powned by pro's?

even better you make sigil customized to people and they can only have one per account. Therefore the only purpose of HoH becomes WaW, getting your first sigil, and bragging.
